THE CONSECRATION OF AARON AND HIS SONS

«Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water. And he put the tunic on him, girded him with the sash, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him; and he girded him with the intricately woven band of the ephod, and with it tied the ephod on him. […] Then Moses brought Aaron’s sons and put tunics on them, girded them with sashes, and put hats on them, as the Lord had commanded Moses.» Leviticus 8:6, 7, 13

Imagine a great ceremony where Aaron and his sons were at the center of it all, and Moses was preparing them to serve God in a very special way—as priests! First, they were washed with water, which symbolized the cleansing of all evil, like when we bathe to remove dirt. Then they put on special clothes that only priests could wear, showing that they were ready for a very important job: helping people draw closer to God.

Next, Moses took the anointing oil, which is like perfume, but more meaningful, and he poured it on Aaron’s head. That was like saying, “God chose you for this work.” They also presented offerings of bread, oil, and animals, which were symbols of thanksgiving to God and asking for help.

All of this teaches us that in order to do things that matter to God, we need to be clean, prepared, and know that God has chosen us to help others. Today’s story teaches us that we all have a special purpose and can do wonderful things if we are ready and willing to serve. Do you want to consecrate yourself to the Lord today?

Take Action

During the week, spray on different perfumes to remember our special mission. Each scent can be a remind-er that we are chosen by God to spread hope around us, just like the scent of perfume spreads in the air!
