«But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; … who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.» 1 Peter 2: 9, 10
We are more special to God than we realize! In today's text, we are called a “chosen generation”, a “royal priesthood” and a “holy nation.” This means that God sees us as very important people and wants us to do amazing things in the world! Remember when you feel happy about being chosen for a team or a game? That's an incredible feeling, isn't it? That's what it means to be a chosen generation, to know that He has chosen us to be part of His wonderful “team”!
Being chosen by God is like being the first to be called up to the best team of all. And the best part is that God doesn't leave anyone out. We are all chosen by Him! The big problem is that many people don't accept being part of that team. But just as it is a privilege to be part of this select group, it is also a great responsibility. We are here on earth to be His representatives, to help people know God's great love through our actions. He knows that you can make a difference in the lives of those around you. Every time you do something good, it's like you're showing a little piece of God's love to other people.
Take Action
The next time you're playing a sport or playing with your friends, choose someone who might not feel so good to be on your team. Notice how happy that person will be to be chosen. This will help you remember the joy we should feel at being part of God's team.
