«He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.» 1 John 4:8
If someone asked you what God is to you, what would you answer? In the Bible, in 1 John 4, we find a powerful and simple truth: God is love. It is not that God only has love, but He Himself is the essence of love. It is as if love is an infinite ocean, and God is that ocean.
We human beings can have a little love. As if we were taking a glass of water from this ocean. But God, He is the very ocean of love. His love has no limits, it does not end and it does not change. He loves everyone, always, regardless of who we are or what we do.
And this love of God is demonstrated in many ways: in Creation, in the way He cares for us, and, above all, in Jesus’s sacrifice. God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son to save us. This act is the greatest demonstration of love that could ever exist. When we understand that God is love, we begin to see the world and people in a different way. We begin to treat others with more kindness, patience, and understanding, because that is exactly what love does.
Take Action
Take a piece of paper and write or draw things that show God’s love. It could be something from nature, an act of kindness from someone, or a word of comfort you heard. Put this mural in a place where you can see it every day to remember that God is love and that every day, He shows us that love in amazing ways.
