«Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.»
Revelation 3: 20
Toc, toc, toc! Have you ever heard that little knock? Today's verse has to do with that sound: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” There's a detail in this beautiful verse that often goes unnoticed. The fact that Jesus is knocking on the door of our hearts is good, but it's also a little worrying. It’s good because He's knocking, but worrying because He's outside.
We often tell people who haven't yet accepted Jesus that He's waiting at the door. And that's true. However, the context of this verse is different! Jesus is knocking on… whose door? The message of Revelation 3 is for His church! For us! Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, waiting for you to let Him in. He will never force us to open that door, but if He knocks, it implies that He is outside our heart, not inside. Tragically, this suggests that many of us Christians are far from Jesus.
That's why He asks us on today, “Let me return to your heart!” Remember that every time God makes a call, there is still time to change. Let Jesus in, don't leave Him out of your life, your routine, your daily life. Can you hear Him knocking?
Take Action
Draw a door with a heart on it and stick it to your bedroom door. This will remind you to always keep your heart open to Jesus, as we learned today.
