«And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth….But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.» Deuteronomy 8: 17,18
At various times in the book of Deuteronomy, God reminds the people of Israel that true strength comes from Him: “For it is He who gives you power.” It's like that game of tug-of-war, where each team pulls the rope to one side. Sometimes in our life, we feel like we are pulling a big string, facing challenges and difficulties. But the good news is that God is on our side, pulling along with us and giving us the strength we need.
God helps us in everything we do, whether it's at school, at home, or with our friends. He gives us wisdom, courage, love and strength to face each day. When we remember that God is with us, we will be stronger and more courageous, not because we have the strength in ourselves, but because we have a super-powerful God on our side. As the famous saying goes, “If you feel small because you're going through a big problem, never tell God you have a big problem, but tell the problem you have a big God!”
Take Action
Organize a game of tug-of-war with your family or friends. While you're playing, think about how God helps us in our daily struggles. After the game, talk about some times when you felt God's strength in your lives.
