HEAD, NOT TAIL

«And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: » Deuteronomy 28: 13

In Deuteronomy 28:13, God makes an incredible promise: “The Lord will make you the head and not the tail.” This means that if we follow God's ways and obey His commandments, He will bless us and place us in positions of success and even leadership. Being “head” means being someone who is at the forefront, who leads, who makes good decisions and who influences others in a positive way.

God wants us to be examples of goodness, love and justice in the world. When we choose to do what is right, even if it is difficult, we are showing others that it is possible to follow God. Remembering that God wants us as “head” should not make us proud, but should help us understand that we have a special mission to be light wherever we are. Trying to guide and influence people on how to serve our God is the best decision we can make!

Take Action

With your family or friends, organize a game where everyone has a chance to be the leader. It can be a simple game, such as following the leader, or a board game where everyone has a turn to be the “boss” of the game. As you play, talk about what it looks like to be a leader and how we can use leadership to do good things and influence others, just as God wants us to be “head.”
