«The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.» Deuteronomy 29: 29
Have you ever gone through a phase where you asked “why” for everything? It is a very special phase, where children, full of curiosity, want to know about animals, plants, natural phenomena and about the things that people create. Sometimes, even after we grow up, we still have a lot of unanswered questions.
At Deuteronomy 29:29, the Bible talks about “the secret things.” This means that there are things that only God knows that we, as human beings, cannot fully understand. God is so great and so wise that some things are mysteries to us. And that's okay! Not knowing everything about God reminds us that He is God and we are not!
Even if we don't know everything, God reveals us enough to trust Him and follow His ways. He shows us love, goodness and beauty in our lives every day. And sometimes mystery is part of that adventure of knowing God!
Take Action
Choose one night to gather with your family, when each member brings up a question about God, the Bible or the world that you consider a mystery. Put all the questions in a box, and read them aloud one by one. Discuss together what these mysteries can teach us about God and how they make us feel. You may not find all the answers, but it will be an opportunity to reflect on the greatness and power of God and how He cares for us, even in the mysteries of life.
