LESSONS FROM THE LIFE AND DEATH OF MOSES

«And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,…In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,…And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel. » Deuteronomy 34: 10-12

Moses was one of the greatest leaders the people of Israel ever had. He was chosen by God to lead the people out of slavery in Egypt, through the wilderness and to the Promised Land. But Moses' story teaches us more than leadership; it tells us about obedience, faith and the consequences of our actions.

Moses' life was full of challenges. From his birth, when he had to be hidden so as not to be killed, to the moments when he faced the Pharaoh of Egypt. God performed many miracles through Moses, such as the parting of the Red Sea and the giving of the Ten Commandments. However, even though Moses was a great leader and prophet, he was human, and like all of us, he also made mistakes. One of those mistakes was when he struck the rock to draw water, instead of talking to it, as God had commanded. Because of that, God told Moses that he would not enter the Promised Land.

The end of Moses' life teaches us about humility and accepting the consequences of our actions. God allowed Moses to see the Promised Land from the top of a mountain, but he could not enter it. Even so, Moses died peacefully, knowing that he had fulfilled his mission to lead the people of Israel to the land that God had promised them.

Take Action

With the help of an adult, create a mural with the key lessons we can learn from Moses' life. You could use drawings, words or images from the internet to represent each lesson, such as the importance of following God's directions, the courage to face challenges and the humility to accept the consequences of our actions. This mural will be a daily reminder of the valuable lessons that the story of Moses teach us.
