«So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son.» Ruth 4: 13
The story of Ruth and Boaz is a beautiful example of how love and loyalty transcend the boundaries of family and nation, and that what we do can even impact history! After arriving in Israel with Naomi, her mother-in-law, Ruth began working in the fields of Boaz, a wealthy man and Naomi's relative. Naomi, wanting the best for Ruth, created a plan so that she could have a more secure future. She advised Ruth to sleep at Boaz's feet, a gesture that at that time was a plea for protection and care.
Upon discovering Ruth at his feet, Boaz understood her gesture and decided to take care of her. He recognized Ruth's loyalty and kindness, not only for Naomi but also for following the customs of her people, even though she was a foreigner. Boaz then acted according to the laws of the time and became Ruth's “redeemer” by marrying her. This act of Boaz symbolizes something much greater: just as Boaz accepted and rescued Ruth, Jesus accepts us and rescued us on the cross.
The marriage of Ruth and Boaz not only secured a future for Ruth and Naomi but also played a crucial role in salvation history. They became part of Jesus' genealogy, showing how God uses everyone, including foreigners and people from humble backgrounds, to fulfill His wonderful plans.
Take Action
Cut strips of paper. On each one, write a way in which you can help or “rescue” someone around you this week. It could be helping a classmate with homework, listening to someone who needs to talk, or sharing something you have.
