GOD'S COVENANT WITH DAVID

«And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.» 2 Samuel 7: 16

Promises. Have you ever promised something to someone? God made a very special promise to King David, something that would mark history forever! He promised David that one of his family would reign as king eternally. This wasn't just about a kingdom on Earth, but a hint about the future King of kings, Jesus, who would come from David's family.

This promise is called the “Davidic covenant,” and it shows how God plans wonderful things long before they happen. Even when David wanted to do something good for God, such as building a temple, God had an even bigger and better plan. He wanted to build a “house,” that is, a royal lineage, through David, that would bring blessings to the whole world.

This covenant is a reminder that God keeps His promises, even if it takes a long time. He has a perfect plan for us, and even our best laid plans don't compare to what He has prepared, not just for our present, but for our future!

Take Action

Ask to see your parents' wedding ring, or someone else’s that is close to you, and try to remember the date they got married. This will help you remember that, just as the wedding ring is a symbol of commitment and love, the promise God made to David is a symbol of His eternal love and commitment to us, which is fulfilled in Jesus.
