«And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.» 2 Samuel 12: 13
Even though he was a brave and faithful king, a hero to his nation, David made a big mistake. He saw Bathsheba, a married woman, and wanted her to be his, even though he knew it was wrong. David tried to hide his mistake by doing even worse things, which reminds us of how a small deviation from the right path can lead to big problems.
God, who sees everything, sent the prophet Nathan to tell David a story that helped him see his mistake. David realized that he had disobeyed God and deeply repented. But because everything we do has consequences, David faced problems in his family after that.
This story teaches us about the importance of making right choices and about how important it is to ask for forgiveness when we make mistakes. God is always willing to forgive, but we must also be ready to face the consequences of our actions and learn from them.
Take Action
Read Psalm 51 and ponder on David's words. Then try writing your own “psalm” of repentance or gratitude. It could be a prayer, a poem, or just a few sentences about how you feel about God and how you want to improve. Keep this in a special place or share it with someone you trust. This is a way of remembering that we all make mistakes, but God is always ready to forgive us and help us grow.
