«For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God…God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.» 2 Samuel 22:32-33
In 2 Samuel 22:32 and 33, we find a very important question: “Who is God, except the Lord?” This question makes us think about how special and unique our God is. I'll give you a good example. Did you know that God has many different names and titles in the Bible? Each of them helps us understand a little more about how amazing He is. For example, God is called the “Lord of hosts,” which shows that He is a great General, more powerful than any army in the world. He is also known as “Jehovah-Raphah,” which means “The God who heals.” This reminds us that God can heal anything, for He is the Physician of physicians.
Another special name of God is “Lord of lords.” This means that He is the greatest leader there is, greater than any king or president. He is the only one worthy of being served. One of my particular favorite titles is “Jehovah-jireh,” which means “The Lord will provide.” This name teaches us that God cares for us and provides everything we need. You see, God is so great and so good that no name can describe all that He is! For who is God, except the Lord?
Take Action
Choose one of God's names, such as “Jehovah-Raphah” or “Jehovah-jireh.” During the week, whenever you pray, begin by thanking God for this aspect of His character. For example, if you choose “Jehovah-Raphah,” thank God for being the God who heals. This will help you connect more deeply with God and understand how He works in your life.
