«And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’» 1 Kings 17:13, 14
During a very difficult time, when there was not enough food, the prophet Elijah met a widow living in Zarephath who was preparing what she thought would be her last meal with her son. Elijah asked her for some food, and even though she had so little, she decided to trust God and share what she had.
God has done a wonderful miracle! The widow’s flour and oil did not run out, as He promised: “The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.” Amen? Each day, that widow had enough to make more food. This was because she trusted God and was generous, even when it seemed like she had almost nothing.
This shows us that when God gives us a lot, it is not just for ourselves. It is not just to have a more comfortable life or to keep everything just for our family. God blesses us so that we can bless others as well. And the more we share, the more miracles we will see! When we share what we have, whether it is food, toys, time, or love, we are doing what is right, just like the widow in this story.
Take Action
Use a piggy bank or make a piggy bank out of cardboard. Whenever you can, put some coins in it. After a while, count the money and use it to help someone in need. It could be donating to a charity, buying food for someone on the street, or any other way to help. This is a practical way to learn how to share God’s blessings with others.
