A Great Price

«When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?» Psalm 8:3, 4

The enemy disguises himself in many ways. Often, temptation is hidden behind a need to prove our worth. Our biggest opponent is our deceitful heart. Therefore, we can only see ourselves as we are when we see ourselves through the eyes of the Eternal God. Only in God can we find our true identity and our value as people. The enemy wants to make us doubt what God says, but divine revelation is what defines us.

The late writer Ron Mehl said that the sum of the elements that exist in the human body is not worth much. According to him, our body has enough quicklime to paint a cage, potassium to light a lighter, sulfur to get fleas off a dog, fat to make a bar of soap, phosphorus to make three toothpicks, iron to make a nail and gas to fill a balloon. In addition to these elements, we have water in our body in greater quantities. If we added up the value of all this, we would find that we would be worth no more than a can of soda. Is that really our value?

It is not the substances in our body, physical appearance, intelligence and professional performance that determine how much we are worth. Our life’s worth comes from God! The fact that we belong to Him, through creation and redemption, produces a feeling of incomparable worth and significance. You were created by the Author of life! Do you know what that means? If that was not enough, you were redeemed by God’s own Son, who paid an unequaled price for your redemption. Doesn't that seem incredible to you?

In the great choir of the universe, God recognizes your voice. The psalmist encourages us to contemplate the sky to put our lives in the right perspective. When we have a complete vision of God's greatness, we understand what He wants us to be. Remember today that the Creator of billions and billions of worlds and stars knows you, knows your name and, more than that: He loves you far beyond what you can imagine.
