Meditate on the Word

«Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.» Psalm 119:97

We need to feed our mind with the Word of God and make the best of it. Martin Luther said: “I study my Bible as I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree that the ripest might fall. Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, I shake each branch and every twig. Then I look under every leaf. “

It is important to know the entire Bible, but we also need to allow God to choose a verse, a thought, an idea that will impress us. Write down this idea and think about it all day. This is called meditation.

The Lord has given us 24 hours a day. Below is a common model for distributing daily time: eight hours for sleep; two for basic needs, such as bathing, brushing teeth and eating; eight for work or study; two for traffic; two for talking and reading; two for recreation and exercise.

As seen in the example above, many people spend their 24 hours on absolutely earthly activities. In general, young people dedicate more time to sports and the internet. The problem is not our activity plans, but what is occupying our hearts and minds.

When we spend an entire week of activities without investing even ten minutes to think about what is eternal, we conclude that we have enormous difficulty concentrating on spiritual matters. Some go weeks or months without having five minutes to think about God.

The literal meaning of meditation is “to bring up again.” The Hebrew term used in Psalm 1, translated as “meditate,” evokes the image of an ox ruminating. In the biblical sense, meditation means to live thinking about the Word and allowing it to shield our being from sinful influences. You can hear, read, memorize and study the Scriptures, but that does not mean you have meditated on them. Some Christians know the Bible from cover to cover, but they do not center their thoughts on what is right. Many people read the Bible as if they were required to get an A to be admitted to Heaven. Do not do that.

Meditate on the Word of God and allow the revealed truth to be implanted in your heart. Try to apply it in your life until it penetrates the most intimate part of your being.
