Ropes

«His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin.» Proverbs 5:22

A few years ago, Indian magician Mandrake died after attempting an audacious trick: releasing the ropes attached to his body while he was submerged in the Hooghly River in India. Under the apprehensive gaze of dozens of people, Mandrake disappeared into the murky waters of the river and was only found the next day, lifeless and still completely tied up. Unfortunately, the spectacle turned into a tragedy.

This sad experience illustrates what happens to those who play with sin. At first, it appears to be an adventure full of emotions, surprises, and rewards, accompanied by a feeling of freedom. However, sin is an illusion, a treacherous magic. It will always charge more than you are willing to pay and will take you further from where you want to be. Behind the lights and “rabbits in the hat” of sin, there is a cunning illusionist who destroys his spectators. He even smiles at you, but then laughs at your misfortune.

Every time you access immoral content, have sexual relations outside of marriage, watch horror films or participate in profane conversations, you are tying ropes to your own body. Do not be deceived! To place yourself in the enchanted land of sin is to jump into a raging river with your hands tied up. The Bible says: “Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as if with a cart rope” (Isa. 5:18).

Wake up! You have a loving God who wants to give you true joy and freedom. There is no trick or magic with Him. His greatest skill is to free prisoners from sin and cast them into the depths of His grace. And He does this with the ropes of love. God says: “I drew them with gentle cords, with bands of love, and I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them” (Hos 11:4).

Perhaps today you are tied up by the enemy’s ropes and believe that you have gone too far. I would like you to know that there is a God capable of untying the knots in your life. He loves you. He died tied to a cross to see you freed from the bonds of sin. Why don’t you give yourself to Jesus now? He does have the ropes of true freedom.
