«And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.» 1 Corinthians 9:25
An athlete who does not like to train should not even compete. Defeat is guaranteed. Muscles need stimulation and adequate nutrition for healthy development. They are responsible for maintaining body stability and enabling the execution of simple activities. They also keep the body in an upright position, while protecting us from injuries. Any movement we perform depends on one or more muscles. That is why we need to keep them active and toned at all times. They are indispensable.
American football player Tom Brady is one of the few athletes who managed to continue competing professionally after the age of forty. Brady collects records and titles. What is his secret for such a long life in a competitive sport? The answer is simple: rigorous training and careful eating. In addition to a strict exercise and fitness routine, Tom made important choices in his lifestyle, such as stopping eating chocolate, drinking soda and eating sweets in general. Zero sugar and no alcohol are characteristics of his diet. Furthermore, Tom pays great attention to hydration and eats an abundance of vegetables. It is clear why his muscles are in such good condition.
Speaking of muscles, how is your spiritual musculature? Have you been seeking adequate nutrition and exercising faith correctly? The apostle Paul recommends that a Christian's spiritual conditioning be much more rigorous than the training of professional athletes. The reason is that athletes train and race for earthly prizes. Christians, in turn, seeks the prize of eternal life. If the physical body can barely stand with deficient muscles, how can Christians overcome temptations if they do not exercise faith and nourish themselves with the Word of God?
Do not be an adversary of your spiritual development. You have an eternal crown to win. Train well and a lot. From the first hour of the day until the moment you go to sleep, exercise your relationship with Jesus. Feed well on the Word of God and be a true athlete of faith.
