A Blessed Relationship

«Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?» Amos 3:3

The main purpose of dating is to provide ways for people to get to know each other better, developing companionship and friendship. Coexistence is a word that best defines this period. Have you ever asked yourself what kind of things you would like your relationship to have? What qualities do you look for in another person? A blessed relationship is one that prepares and leads towards a good purpose. And, in the case of a Christian relationships, that purpose is marriage.

There are three important elements for building a healthy relationship: knowing yourself, knowing the other and letting the other get to know you.

Know yourself. People with low self-esteem usually have a tough time cultivating good relationships. The feeling of inferiority is a merciless villain. An insecure person jumps into dating without thinking about the consequences. As a result, dating can possibly be overly eroticized.

Get to know the other. The more you know the other, the fewer surprises you will have later. It is wise to pay attention to how a person treats themselves. Do they see themselves as a victim? Ask an emotionally neutral person for their opinion. The ideal is to ask your parents what they think about your suitor. Never forget to compare life ideals and future expectations to see if you have a common goal.

Let the other get to know you. It is good to spend time together, share your feelings, question ideas, talk about your decisions, your dreams and about yourself. Observe if you have things in common: if you match culturally, in economic levels, family, religion, age group, etc. All this is particularly important before taking the decisive step that will take you to the altar. Do not go ahead with a relationship until you are sure that the person has qualities to share within this relationship.

Do not date people who are uncommitted to God and the church. You will find good people at the front lines. The girl who helps in the children's class could be a good option; the boy who sings in the choir may be the blessing you have been waiting for. Ultimately, ask God for wisdom in this choice and align yourself with the guidance He has given to His faithful children.
