The Best Version

«In this new life, […] Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.» Colossians 3:11, NLT

His name was John. Every day his mother woke him up at five in the morning. The mother’s first words were: “John, son, wake up, we will have a wonderful day!” This was his mother’s greeting every day.

One day, the door opened, and his mother said, “John, today will be wonderful!” He didn’t even move. Then she asked him: “Son, what is wrong with you?”

“Today is not going to be good at all! It’s going to be terrible!” he said. “But what happened, my son? Why are you saying this?”, she asked him. “I’m sleepy and cold. Today is not going to be good.” His mom an-swered, “Forgive me. I didn’t know you were feeling this way. Stay in bed, no problem.” Then, she covered her son, closed the window and left.

When his mother left the room, John thought, ironically: “Wow! Why didn’t I think about this before? This is fantastic!” And he continued in bed. Around nine o’clock, John started to wake up. He smelled fresh pancakes. He got up, went downstairs, and headed towards the kitchen.

Upon seeing him, his mother asked, “What are you doing here?” “I came to have my breakfast!”, he said. “No!” she replied, “You said your day today would be terrible. Now go to your room!”

And he had to spend the whole day there. The hours dragged by. Hunger was pressing. He wanted to get up, but he couldn’t. Night came, and sleep did not come; midnight, and the hours didn’t pass. His back was already hurting. Three in the morning, and he couldn’t sleep anymore. At 4 a.m., John got up, got dressed, sat on the edge of his bed and waited. Five in the morning, he heard his mother’s footsteps heading towards his room. When the door opened, John stood up and said “Mom, today is going to be wonderful!”

Every day, each of us chooses how we will feel! Although the principle is clear, the Bible does not say how a young adult should live with a good attitude. But when you see someone with a good attitude, you know you’re with someone who has found the best version of themselves. Today will be wonderful! Take on this attitude.
