Ask, Seek and Knock

«Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.» Matthew 7:7, 8

Prayer is something supernatural. It is a conversation with God. Does He really hear what we tell Him? If He listens, will He respond? What difference does prayer make in your life?

Many people want to go to Heaven, but they do not pray. I wonder what this person will do in eternity. As songwriter Jader Santos said, “Heaven is Jesus.” And what are we going to do in Heaven? In a sense, our experience there will be something similar to prayer. If a person does not like to pray, what are they going to do in Heaven? Our main activity there will be talking to Jesus.

So, if prayer is so important, it is better to start training now, don't you think? Perhaps we are the only obstacle that prevents the blessing of prayer. God said we can ask, seek and knock.

Our God is powerful, and He is also accessible. There are no intermediaries between us and Him, no waiting room, no need to fill out forms. The Bible teaches that we do not need to depend on anyone to reach God. Many do not have more access to God because they do not want to. He Himself said that we just had to knock, and the door would open.

According to Ellen White: “We may commune with God in our hearts; we may walk in companionship with Christ. When engaged in our daily labor, we may breathe out our heart's desire, inaudible to any human ear; but that word cannot die away into silence, nor can it be lost. Nothing can drown the soul's desire. It rises above the din of the street, above the noise of machinery. It is God to whom we are speaking, and our prayer is heard. Ask, then; ask, and ye shall receive. […] To every sincere prayer an answer will come. It may not come just as you desire, or at the time you look for it; but it will come in the way and at the time that will best meet your need (Gospel Workers, p. 258). Stop everything you are doing right now and ask, seek and knock!
