«Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning.» Luke 12:35
There is nothing worse than being the wrong person, in the wrong place, and still making the wrong decision. Have you ever experienced something like this? Who has never been in that position? If being the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time is a real possibility, so is the opposite. There are times when you might be the right person, in the right place, with the chance to do the right thing. Look at what happened in July 1989 on the United Airlines 232 flight.
On that day, there were 296 passengers on board. The route between Denver and Philadelphia, in the United States, was made by a three-engine McDonnell Douglas, DC-10-10. Although this was one of the safest aircraft at the time, it suddenly lost all three hydraulic systems mid-flight, leaving it completely out of control. While the flight attendant was trying to hurriedly collect the waste from the in-flight service, someone noticed that she was too tense and tried to calm her down by saying: “Don't worry! This plane can fly with just two engines to the nearest airport.” She then, trembling, whispered in the passenger's ear: “But we lost the entire hydraulic system.” An alert turned on in that man's mind. He was none other than Dennis Fitch, an expert on DC-10. He knew very well that airplane model. Fitch offered help and was soon led to the cabin. The pilots, with his support, managed to control the plane until they reached the nearest airport. It was not easy! They made a high-risk landing. On impact, 111 people lost their lives. However, 185 were saved, in what many considered an impossible mission.
Sometimes we think we are simple passengers, traveling through life, on any regular flight. Maybe you think you are a mere student, employee, assistant, crew member or something else. But do not be fooled. Chance does not exist! And neither do insignificant people.
Certainly, God allows us to be in many places and on specific occasions to make a difference and save lives. You can be the right person, in the right place and at the right time right where you are. You just need to be prepared and willing to serve and let the light of Jesus shine through you. So, if there are problems around you, do not shy away. Let God use you. Offer help!
