«Their weakness was turned to strength.» Hebrews 11:34, NLT
Australian Nick Vujicic was born in 1982 with a rare syndrome called Tetra-amelia, characterized by an embryonic malformation that results in the absence of arms and legs. His childhood was marked by difficulties, bullying and loneliness. Simple tasks, like eating or brushing his teeth, were almost insurmountable challenges. To make matters worse, the boy was banned from attending a regular school because of his disability. When he was eight years old, Nick thought about taking his own life.
However, the boy did not follow through with this idea. After a change in state laws, he was integrated into the school and learned to write using the only two toes on his left foot. Furthermore, he developed his own way of using the computer, combing his hair, surfing and diving, among other things.
At 17, Nick realized he could be an inspiration to other people. He created a non-profit organization called Life Without Limbs and began traveling the world giving motivational talks. He got a degree in accounting, got married and currently has four children. Nick discovered that you can draw strength from weakness.
What would Nick be if he did not have this rare syndrome? He would probably be an unknown surfer from Melbourne, Australia. But it was precisely his disability and the way he dealt with it that made him one of the most well-known and sought-after speakers on the planet.
God is not the cause of problems, deformities or even syndromes. All of this is the result of sin. But He is so wise that He gives us the opportunity to learn from difficulties. Look, for example, at the lives of some Bible characters. If it were not for blindness, Bartimaeus might never have met Jesus. The same with the paralytic in Capernaum, the woman with the issue of blood and the man with the withered hand. Thanks to their weaknesses, these people discovered the gracious power of the Savior and had their stories described in the Holy Book.
I do not know what kind of weakness you are dealing with now. But understand that this is an excellent opportunity for God to work. Learn today to deal with your imperfections. You will certainly have a lot to tell.
