«All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.» 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Have you ever read the Bible from cover to cover? Can you find verses on topics that interest you and that testify to your faith? I challenge you to make a commitment to studying God's Word as an exercise in spiritual discipline. For example, you could read one chapter of the New Testament a day. You can choose an annual Bible reading plan. Personally, every year I read the Bible in a different version. This practice takes me an average of just 20 minutes a day. Some years, I also set a reading topic: God's actions, relationships, prayer, leadership, etc.
Whatever reading and study plan you use, the important thing is to have a plan. The best Bible study plan is the one you use. What is the importance of studying the Bible? Can you think of another way to become a disciple without studying the Bible? I can honestly say that I have never met a young person whose life has been significantly changed without regular study of God's Word. Do you want to change your life? Study the Bible.
Reevaluate your commitment to the Word of God. Have you been reading the Bible regularly? Have you gained strength through it? Have you ever enjoyed the joy of reading the entire Bible? Are you willing to take on this challenge?
When Paul said that “all Scripture” is inspired, he was speaking of it from cover to cover. Do not try to select and classify what God has already selected and classified. Here are some ideas of what Paul meant when he said that the Bible is “divinely inspired” and also useful in many areas of life: It is useful for teaching: it shows us what to do; it is useful for reproof: it shows us what not to do; it is useful for correction: it shows us what to do when we have not done what we should have done; it is useful for instruction in righteousness: it shows us how to walk uprightly, leading us to bless others and be fruitful.
Keep this advice in mind: you will never regret the time invested in the careful study of God's Word. It will be useful in many ways: today, tomorrow and as long as you live. Do not wait for anyone to tell you what the Bible says. Read it yourself!
