«Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God.» Ecclesiastes 2:24
Work is fundamental for the functioning of society and for achieving our life goals. My work experience is rewarding. I have been blessed with a spiritual and vocational calling that fits my abilities perfectly. I like what I do, but I know that not everyone sees their work as an adventure.
There are also things I do not like about my job, but they are part of my duties. So, I try to do the difficult things first. This requires a good dose of persistence. But I know the end result, so I proceed with determination. I know that this is essential for completing the task. I can also foresee the pleasure of the completed task. See that one thing depends on the other. Enjoying work keeps me not only focused on my mission but also excited.
I know that almost everyone needs to work to earn a living. It is not easy to get up every morning to do work that sometimes seems meaningless. Therefore, it is important to chase your dreams. God has a tailor-made dream for each person. We call this a vocation. Vocation is when we feel that God is calling us to do something truly great together. Your work needs to be your calling, not just a professional task. Any job guarantees a salary at the end of the month; the vocation guarantees satisfaction at the end of the task. You do the work because you have to satisfy your employer; your vocation is part of God’s plan for your life.
If you have been blessed with a job to cover your costs, try to fit your calling into what you are doing. In other words, try to enjoy what you are doing. Another tip: look for points of interest between demands and pleasure. Otherwise, the days will drag before you, or you will drag yourself to every day ahead of you. The reward of work is temporary; the reward of vocation is eternal.
