«Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.» Revelation 3:20
I dated and got engaged when I was in boarding school. My fiancée finished her college degree, and I had another year of studies ahead of me. That meant that we would be far from each other, a distance of more than one thousand kilometers. We agreed that we would both write a letter to each other every day. And we actually did that. Each of us has at least five hundred letters saved to this day. They tell part of our love story.
In the name of Jesus, John wrote a letter to each of the seven churches in Asia Minor. Each church represents a period in the history of Christianity. All letters have more or less the same structure. They have presentation, praise, admonition, advice and promise. They contain declarations of God's love for His people.
In my opinion, the most passionate is the letter to Laodicea. This name comes from the combination of two Greek words: laos, which means “people,” and dikaios, which means “judgment.” So, Laodicea means “judgment of the people” or “people of judgment.”
Prophetically, the period of this church began in 1844 and lasts until the return of Jesus. In 1844, the investigative judgment began. Jesus said that Laodicea was one step away from eternity but was sleeping in its lukewarmness and indifference. Therefore, it is a church that is comfortable and satisfied with itself. And God cannot stand this situation.
The church at Laodicea is my church today. The youth of this church is my youth. It is us that the Lord is rebuking with tears in His eyes. I do not remember a time in my Christian life when I felt cold. There were several moments when I felt a hot, having an active experience with my Jesus. But most of the time, I confess that I felt lukewarm, doing more of the same without the flame of truth shining in my heart. This condition is comfortable but terribly dangerous.
In His strong plea, Jesus is knocking on the door of our hearts. He is outside. Something very wrong is taking place inside; therefore, He wants to come in. Answer His knocks. Let Him in and enjoy His company. I guarantee you: after He comes in, nothing will be the same!
