Worship in Heaven

«And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy.”» Revelation 4:8

Revelation 4 describes the heavenly throne room. This chapter also presents how worship takes place in Heaven, in which angels endlessly repeat their praise to God. John Wesley calls this “happy unrest.” What the angels say in Heaven the twenty-four elders repeat: “Holy, holy, holy.” One day we will join them and make a big choir.

Can we imagine praise and worship in Heaven? The Lamb is there. He is not just a “nice person,” but the One who paid the price for us. He who “so loved” us (John 3:16). How do you understand this? Any eight-year-old child can say, “The Creator of the universe cares about me so much that He came to Earth to pay my debt with His blood.” If we accept this message, our lives will change. The way we understand love is important because it defines how we respond to love.

Think about these three questions: (1) Who is the most important person in your life? (2) Who is the person who hurt you the most in life? For most of us, it is not too difficult to remember one. (3) Would you be able to let go of the person you love most in favor of the one who hurt you the most?

That is what love does. Love gives the best to those who do not deserve it. The apostle Paul says, “Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). John states: “By this we know love because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16). Love is the principle by which God guides the universe.

In Revelation, we see the angels and the twenty-four elders worshiping God not only because of His great love for them, but because He loves His children regardless of who they are. That is why they worship Him, because it is impossible to experience God's love and not bow down before Him.

This is what we will do for all eternity, in the company of celestial beings. We do not know exactly what that means. Try to imagine being before the Lord, far from sin, illness and temptation. Imagine beholding Him face to face, looking at the Lamb who loved us and washed away our sins. Now it is easier to understand why the twenty-four elders cast their crowns before the throne (Rev 4:10). Heaven is a place for worshipers!
