«Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.» Revelation 1:7
The person who loves does not only make promises; they fulfill them. For some people, Jesus' apparent delay in returning is a great challenge. However, we need to understand that the Lord's supposed delay does not determine whether His promise will be fulfilled or not. Whoever promised is faithful. He does not fail.
Kara Troy Robbins and Jeannine Ganaye’s story is heartbreaking and illustrates this reality. They met in 1944, at the end of the Second World War. Although they swore their love to each other, Kara, who was serving as a soldier, was transferred to another group. Circumstances seemed to have separated them forever. Even without seeing each other, they never forgot each other. The promise of meeting again one day remained true.
After 75 long years, after efforts on a television show, the couple met again. Robbins was 96 years old, and Jeannine was 92. Both were widowers at the time. Their reunion was emotional.
Obviously, we cannot compare Christ's faithfulness with that of any human being. Jesus is faithful, and His words are faithful and true. Everything He promises is fulfilled. God's faithfulness does not vary depending on the weather or the fluctuation of the stock market.
In His first coming, Jesus proved that He is faithful to His word. After four thousand years of messianic expectation, in the fullness of time, God sent His son (Gal 4:4) to die in our place. In the Old Testament, the hope of the first advent of the Messiah is everywhere. These prophecies were fully fulfilled in the life of Jesus.
In His ministry, the Lord renewed the promise and directed our attention to His return. As He did at the first coming, Jesus will fulfill His promise to come back again. Even if the time seems long or the circumstances are unfavorable to keep this flame burning, do not lose faith. Persevere confident in the grace and faithfulness of our God. He who made the promise will fulfill His word. He will come. Get ready!
