City With No Cemetery

«And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.» Revelation 21:4

Once, I (Ailton) visited an aunt who lived opposite a cemetery. Although the place was quiet (the neighbors were not bothersome), I confess that I did not feel at ease during the time I spent there. I was a teenager at that time, and my head was full of superstition.

There are very few cities that do not have a cemetery. Pacaraima, in the state of Roraima, Brazil, bordering Venezuela, is one of them. Its soil is unsuitable for the burial of human bodies. When someone dies in the city, the burial is done elsewhere. Every time I passed by there, I was reminded of a wonderful promise from the Bible. The New Jerusalem will also not have a cemetery. And the reason is not the same as in Pacaraima. The soil in the city of God has no problems. The reason is different: its inhabitants will never die.

The New Jerusalem will be covered with precious stones and clothed with the glory of the Lamb. There will be nothing unclean or evil there. No earthly gain can compare to the eternal happiness we will enjoy there. Not only will there be no cemeteries there, but everything related with pain, suffering, tears, anguish, illness and death will disappear. There will be no hospitals or prisons there.

There will be no pandemics, robberies, or murders. There will be no processions, funeral ceremonies, or posthumous tributes. All those saved will live eternally happy and free from any threat of death. We will be able to walk through the streets of that city at any time of the day without worrying about safety. All police and military personnel will retire their uniforms and enjoy the security that God promises to establish, as there will be no clashes or crime.

Do you want to live in this place? Have you been preparing to live in that great city? Jesus went to prepare a place there for each of us. Get ready! Soon we will be in our new home.
