«For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.» Matthew 24:27
The average voltage of lightning oscillates between 100 million and one billion volts. A 30,000- amps-current is generated, and it would be enough to light around 50,000 lamps. The largest lightning strike on record struck in Brazil. Traveling about 710 kilometers, the phenomenon cut the sky in the south of the country, on October 31, 2018. It is more than double the previous record, recorded in Oklahoma, in the United States, with 321 kilometers. The longest lightning strike occurred in Argentina, lasting 17 seconds, on March 4, 2019.
Jesus compared the visibility of His coming to lightning: “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be” (Matt. 24:27). The return of the Lord will be seen from one end to another on this planet. Like lightning, He will tear apart the sky and reveal the glory and power of God.
The second coming of Jesus will impact the life and history of human beings for all eternity. This glorious event will be a watershed in the destiny of humanity. It will not be seen only by some, but “every eye will see Him” (Rev 1:7). The second coming of Jesus will have cosmic dimensions. He will come with clouds, with power and much glory. With thousands and thousands of angels, with a great shout of trumpets and songs of praise. Jesus will come to bring His chosen ones to live eternity with Him.
Lighting strikes shine in the sky, display their strong energy, their big thunder sound scares and it can even cause some damage. But its effects soon wear off. Jesus’s return, however, will be much stronger than the greatest lightning and will leave permanent effects. The sky will roll up like parchment and open to give way to the most glorious entourage in the Universe. In the center of it, the King, seated on His throne, will come to rescue His Children. Like lightning, He will energize this planet with His justice, which will give reward to the faithful and punishment to the wicked.
Are you prepared for this big event? Whether we like it or not, the world will have to stop and look at the One who comes in the clouds. On that wonderful day, the most vigorous rays will lose their strength in comparison to the thunderous power of Jesus. Be ready to be enlightened with the glory of the Lord’s return and say that He is the God you have been waiting for.
