Hospitality
“A … woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal” (2 Kin. 4:8, NIV).
We don’t know this woman’s name. But we know that she had a ministry: hospitality. Elisha did not belong to her circle of friends, or her church group. She even didn’t know he was a prophet. He was just a traveler who passed through her town, in which she saw someone who needed rest and nourishment. The verse states, “So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat” (NIV).
The Shunammite recognized God’s blessings in her life. She knew that God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. Hospitality should be part of our daily lives, “for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Heb. 13:2, NIV).
