Jesus is eternal, Creator, omni-powerful, omnipresent, the Giver of life, and does not change.
Jesus is Eternal. He is not limited by time. He has existed since eternity (Mic 5:2). He is the Alpha and Omega (Rev 22:13; in Rev 1:8 the same attributes are declared about the Father). The Messiah is the Eternal Father according to Isaiah 9:6, and Hebrews 1:8 states that Jesus’ throne lasts forever and ever (see also John 8:58).
Jesus is the Creator. The Word has created all things (John 1:3). Because Jesus has created all things, He Himself is not created but the Creator (Col 1:16). Through the Son, God created the world, and the Son is the Sustainer and the exact representation of the Father (Heb 1:2–3).
Jesus is omnipotent and omniscient. All authority is given to Him (Matt 28:18). For example, Jesus was able to read the thoughts of His audience; He knew about Nathanael before He called him to become a disciple; Peter confessed that Jesus knew that he loved Him (see Matt 8:26–27; 9:4; 14:19; Mark 2:8; John 1:47–50; 2:24–25; 6:64; 16:30; 21:17).
Jesus is omnipresent. He proclaimed, “Where two or three have gathered together in my name, I am there in their midst” (Matt 18:20, NCB). When He was ascending to heaven, Jesus assured His followers, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt 28:20, NKJV). These statements require omnipresence. It is the Holy Spirit who brings Christ’s presence everywhere.
Jesus remains the same (Heb 1:12). Paul states, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Heb 13:8). Jesus’ absolute reliability means that His love toward us and His care for us are not dependent on changing occasions, feelings, or moods. The prophet Malachi proclaims about the Lord, “I the Lord do not change” (Mal 3:6) and James states, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (Jas 1:17).
Jesus has life inherent in Himself. He is the Source of life; not only does He give life, but He is life (John 1:4; 5:26). He can lay down His life and can take it again (John 10:17). He is able to give life to us; He is the resurrection, the way, the truth, and the life (John 11:25; 14:6). Eternal life is always dependent on Jesus (John 3:36; 6:40; 10:28; 1 John 5:11–13).
