Female Genital Mutilation

Anything that violates and hurts people is wrong. While the Bible does not directly mention female genital mutilation, the ritual removal or injuring of external female genitalia, the Bible’s principles teach us that it is evil. Paul says that “love does no harm to a neighbor” (Rom. 13:10). The Creator and Designer of all life is against all “harm.”

God created the man and the woman as equals and put them in a garden called “Eden,” the meaning of which is related to pleasure and delight (Gen. 2:8). Astounding! This means that God created the man and the woman for mutual pleasure. In the Garden of Pleasure, it was their joy and privilege to “become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Gen. 2:24-25). This is the Bible’s beautiful way of telling us that they were sexually passionate with one another with shameless innocence. The diabolical point of female genital mutilation is to destroy the female capacity for sexual pleasure so that she is denied equality with her husband.

Do you believe that “God is love” (1 John 4:8)? And do you believe that “God created man in His own image” as both “male and female” for mutual sexual “pleasure” (Gen. 1:27; 2:8)? If you do, then it is your Christian duty to stand against female genital mutilation, and to regard it as the horrible and crude evil it is.
