Hardships

It may be cancer, a job loss, or a shattered relationship—or all of the above, bombarding you at once. Whatever the cause, hardships and difficult times are an inevitable part of life. Some ordeals are easier to weather than others, but all of us have to face trials and find the energy and resolve to move on.

Our hardships sometimes feel overwhelming, but an old saying declares, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” In other words, when life gets tough, just keep moving forward. As a follower of Christ, you can draw strength and courage from the Word of God. Your faith in a powerful, mighty God should play a crucial role when facing life’s trials. The Bible has many encouraging words for us, including:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Ps. 46:1, NIV)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Josh. 1:9, NIV)

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Cor. 10:13, NIV)
