Balancing Study, Work, and Social Life
It’s easy for a hectic schedule to crowd out Bible study and prayer. Between school, work, relationships, and your social life, it can become almost impossible to dedicate any time to God. Finding life balance can be overwhelming.
Consider these steps when trying to establish balance in your life:
- Dedicate your life to God each day, every day. Make it a point to pray as soon as you wake up each morning. Place your Bible right next to your bed and keep it there. Read a passage every morning before you start your day.
- Define your values. What do you value the most in life? Consider what’s important to you: family, health, friendships, spirituality. Establish goals based on your values.
- Determine what needs to be done and when. Make a “To Do” list each day. Place a number next to each task on the list, putting the most important things first. Do one thing at a time.
- Decide to spend time with family and friends. Some people find it far too easy to push out important people in their lives. Make the people important to you a priority.
- Don’t say yes to everyone and everything. Learn to say no. You don’t have to please everyone. It’s ok to say no.
- Do it. Just thinking about life balance or writing it down won’t work unless you follow through.
It may take some time to get accustomed to balancing your life. You may have to make some adjustments. You may need to make some changes in regards to friends, activities and even family. In the end, though, you won’t regret having made these changes.
Most of all, don’t forget to put God first. It’s the most important step in finding life balance.
