Is God Still Creating?

Have you ever looked up at the stars on a clear, cloudless night and wondered if there are other planets like Earth out there? Secular scientists (that is, scientists who don’t believe in God) tell us that, statistically, because there are so many stars and galaxies in the universe, then there simply must be other Earth-like planets out there that harbor life, too. Consequently, they scan the universe, studying images from powerful telescopes and data monitoring radio waves from distant galaxies, searching for evidence of life.

The Bible says some rather amazing things about life in the rest of the universe. Daniel 7:9-10 portrays a scene that is clearly not on this earth, but which includes hundreds of thousands of intelligent beings from somewhere, participating in the heavenly judgment. Ephesians 3:10 speaks of how God, through the Christian church, is explaining the plan of salvation to the “principalities and powers in the heavenly places”—possibly a reference to intelligent beings God created and loves who are not part of our planet.

Astronomers estimate that the universe contains, at minimum, several hundred billion galaxies. Each galaxy may contain, on average, several hundred billion stars, each with its own planetary systems. God has created untold number of worlds that exist somewhere out there in the universe today, an untold number of which may be home to intelligent life. Is He still creating such places today? The short answer is, we don’t know--but each of us, if we put our trust in Jesus, can rest assured that someday we’ll find out. When we get to heaven, we can ask Jesus our questions face to face—and maybe even visit those other planets ourselves. It’s just one more thing to look forward to, and one more reason to trust in Jesus as our personal Friend and Savior.
